In the last few days, there has been a lot of debate regarding the future of star Indian cricketers like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in the ODI format. According to several reports, the duo isn’t in the BCCI’s plans for the ODI World Cup 2027 and need to play in the Vijay Hazare Trophy to prolong their career in the 50-over format. Although there hasn’t been any confirmation, the fans left wondering whether they will witness Kohli and Rohit in India colours again or not.

India’s next ODI assignment will be a three-match series against Australia on October 19 down under. The upcoming series is also being looked at as a last outing for both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in the ODI format. Talking about this, Devang Gandhi, who is a former selection committee member of the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) feels that the Indian team needs to move on from Kohli and Rohit to give chance to youngster like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sai Sudharsan and more.

Time doesn't wait for anybody: Devang Gandhi

In his recent interview with the Times of India, Devang Gandhi said that players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant and Sai Sudharsan shouldn’t sit out after proving themselves wheneve given a chance. The former selection committee member advised the Indian team management to take a right call.

"How will you make players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant, Sai Sudharsan, among others, sit out when they have shown how well they can adapt? The bigger transition is from T20s to Tests. Once a player has done well in Test cricket and has the power game, ODIs should come easier to them. It is very important that the selectors and the team management sit together and take a call," Devang Gandhi said.

"If, say, in a year's time, we come to a situation where one of them is not firing and we need a replacement, the team management may not have enough time to prepare a player for the job. There's absolutely no doubt about the contribution of Rohit and Virat. But time doesn't wait for anybody," he further added.
