On Sunday, February 4, the England fast bowler James Anderson revealed how their head coach Brendon McCullum told them last night about trying to chase down even 600 runs if India reaches that number during the second Test match. Ultimately, the Indian cricket team set up a target of 399 runs for England on Day 3 in Visakhapatnam.

At the close of play on Day 3, England are 67/1 in pursuit of a 399-run target at the Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA–VDCA Cricket Stadium, which would give them a 2-0 lead in the five-match Test series. Earlier in the day, India got dismissed for just 255 runs in their first innings, following a superb hundred from Shubman Gill, who has been under pressure to score big runs in his Test career for quite a while.

While speaking to TNT Sports at stumps on Day 3 of the second Test match, James Anderson revealed that the head coach Brendon McCullum spoke to them about chasing any total India posted on the board. He was quoted as saying, “The chat last night from the coach (Brendon McCullum) was that if they get 600, we were going to go for it. It makes it very clear to everyone that we will try to do it tomorrow.

James Anderson also commented on how England stuck to their task during their bowling effort in Visakhapatnam, reducing India to a low score in their second innings. He remarked, “We stuck to our task really well today. They put on a partnership at one point but the way the spinners kept going, kept toiling, was brilliant. Now we’re in a great position and we’re going to give it a good crack tomorrow.”

England will begin play on Day 4 at the Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA–VDCA Cricket Stadium with Zak Crawley (29) and the night-watchman Rehan Ahmed (9) at the crease, needing a further 332 runs to achieve victory in the second Test.
