With competitive tennis set to return to action with the National Bank Open in Toronto, the tournament was handed a major setback as four of the star players, including the top ranked stars like Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz pulled out of the tournament. World No. 1 Jannik Sinner, legend Novak Djokovic and British No. 1 Jack Draper - all have withdrawn from the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Toronto.

The 1000 Masters tournament, which will be played from July 27 to August 7 at the Sobeys Stadium, saw the organisers confirm the update on Sunday, July 20. "Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic have been forced to withdraw from the 2025 National Bank Open in Toronto as they recover following Wimbledon. Jack Draper has also withdrawn due to injury," read their statement on social media.

Jannik Sinner withdraws citing health concerns; Novak - Draper out due to injuries

Sinner, who is coming after his maiden Wimbledon win, cited health concerns as the reason of his withdrawal. The 2023 Toronto champion stated, “I am really disappointed to be missing the National Bank Open in Toronto, especially as I have such fond memories of playing in Canada.” On the other hand, the 24-time Grand Slam champion and legend of the game, Novak Djokovic’s decision came as he struggles from an injury.

It is to be noted that the 38-year-old, who is a four-time champion in Toronto, is suffering from a groin injury. The Serb was seen struggling with the injury at the Wimbledon 2025. Apart from these two, Brit No. 1, Jack Draper has also withdrawn from the event due to a arm injury. “After Wimbledon, I picked up an injury in my left arm, nothing serious, but I have to make sure it recovers fully for the rest of the season,” Draper shared on social media, confirming his withdrawal.

Carlos Alcaraz, who has been in his prime form, was the latest of them all to pull out of the ATP 1000 Masters. The World No. 2 did not reveal the reason behind his withdrawal, but his decision comes seeing a pack scheduled. The Spaniard’s withdrawal marks his absence from the the sixth Masters 1000 of the season. However, he is set to return to action in the Cincinnati.
