Japan Open 2023: Lakshya Sen bows out after 15-21, 21-13, 16-21 semi-final defeat

The World No. 13 was India’s sole alive contender after Satwik-Chirag and HS Prannoy lost in their respective quarter final clashes earlier on Friday.

Indian shuttler Lakshya Sen bowed out of Japan Open 2023 after getting slumped to Indonesia’s Jonatan Christie in men’s singles on July 29, Saturday. This was Sen's third consecutive semi-final appearance in the BWF World Tour, after he won the Canada Open 2023 and appeared in the semifinals of the US Open 2023. 

After losing the first battle, the Indian shuttler made a sound comeback in the game and turned tables for his Indonesian rival by winning it 21-13 and extending the match to a decider. In the final round, both the players exchanged points alternatively and took the game to 6-6. 

It was then Christie turned the game in his favour and went into the break with a four-point lead (11-7). He will now clash against either of Kodai Naraoka or Viktor Axelsen in the final clash tomorrow, July 30.
