The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is all set to name its 17-member squad for the 50-over Asia Cup 2023 and the ODI World Cup 2023. Just a day prior to the squad announcement, reports surfaced that Indian spearhead Jasprit Bumrah is all set to be named the vice-captain of the side with Rohit Sharma leading the Men in Blue.

As per a report published by The Times of India, Jasprit Bumrah is set to replace Hardik Pandya as the vice-captain of the side. While Jasprit Bumrah is currently leading the Indian side in the three-match Ireland series, Hardik Pandya led Team India in the five-match T20I series, which the side lost 3-2.

“If you look in terms of leadership seniority, Bumrah is ahead of Pandya as he captained the Test team in 2022. He has also been ODI vice-captain before Pandya during the ODI tour of South Africa,” a BCCI source told PTI. “Don’t be surprised if you see Bumrah being made an ODI deputy to Rohit for both Asia Cup and World Cup,” he further added.
