The Indian team has suffered a massive blow as premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is set to miss the entire Border Gavaskar Trophy. BCCI had excluded him from the squad from the first two Tests and the pacer will reportedly remain out of the team for the last two Tests as well. Bumrah has been out of action for over six months now and was touted to return against Australia.

As per The Telegraph, Bumrah will not be included in the squad for the final two matches of the series. The Mumbai Indians speedster is currently rehabilitating in the NCA from his back injury. Bumrah was named in the squad for the three-game ODI series against Sri Lanka but pulled out due to stiffness.

The report said, “Bumrah has been undergoing full-tilt bowling sessions at the NCA for the past few days and has pulled up well. There has been no stiffness the following day, which is the most encouraging part for him.”

Bumrah could return to the ODIs as the 50-over games start on March 17 at Wankhede in Mumbai. After the ODI series, Bumrah is expected to feature for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2023. The BCCI hasn’t announced the squads for the 3rd and 4th Tests of the Border Gavaskar Trophy. Chairman of Selectors Chetan Sharma is expected to announce the squad alongside the list of players for the ODI series in the coming weeks.

Talking about the Border Gavaskar Trophy, the Indian team consolidated their upper hand on the first Test as they took a 144-run lead in the first innings. After finishing Day 1 on 77/1, Team India led by Rohit Sharma’s century ended the second day at a score of 321-7. Along with Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, and Axar Patel also completed half-centuries. While for Australia, debutant Todd Murphy took a five-wicket haul.
