Premier League club Liverpool have flown off to Austria for their first week of pre-season, with most of their first-team players also going with the squad. Manager Jurgen Klopp has often gone on record highlighting the importance of a pre-season and now he will be able to mix and match his first-choice stars that can help him prepare and close in on the combinations for the upcoming season.

However, one star who won't be travelling with the Reds is Georginio Wijnaldum who joined Paris Saint-Germain this season. The Dutchman's departure could be seen as a massive blow to the club especially because he was sent for free after his contract expired. And now, reports state that Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson could also leave the club amid "significant uncertainty." While he is contracted with the Reds until 2023, negotiations between the Liverpool captain and the management to extend his stay have yielded no concrete results.

The revelations have been made in a report carried by the Athletic who claim that neither parties want a repeat of a Wijnaldum disaster where the player moved as a free agent and thus, Henderson could move out at the end of this season alone.

It should be noted, however, that the 31-year-old is one of the only the five players to have played 10 seasons in the Premier League for the Reds and has been one of the architects of the team's recent success under the Klopp regime.

Atletico Madrid and PSG keeping a close eye on Henderson situation

However, if the club does not show any real intent on retaining his services, he could make an exit with clubs like Atletico Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain keeping a close eye on his situation. PSG Manager Mauricio Pochettino is a well known Henderson fan and will pounce on any opportunity to add him in the squad that he is building keeping the Champions League vision in mind.

Henderson lifted the Champions League trophy in Atletico Madrid's Wanda Metropolitano Stadium in June 2019 and his qualities include pressing hard and playing aggressive football, which would also be in complete sync with Diego Simeone's managerial style.

While this is set to be a huge summer for the Reds as they have to finalise deals with the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah, Alisson Becker and Fabinho, by the looks of it Henderson could might move on.
