Jose Mourinho, the manager of Fenerbahce, has received a ban for four games along with a fine of £35,194 for his derogatory comment towards a fourth official from Turkey after the Istanbul derby against Galatasaray at the Rams Park in the Turkish Super Lig, which was played on Monday, February 24. The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) sanctioned Jose Mourinho, 62, on two separate disciplinary matters on Thursday, February 27, which means that he won’t be on the touchline for Fenerbahce for nearly a month.
Notably, as per the report published in BBC Sport, Jose Mourinho was having none of the Turkish fourth official after the Istanbul derby, and he was quoted as saying about him, “after the big dive in the first minute and their bench jumping like monkeys on the top of the kid... with a Turkish referee you would have a yellow card after one minute and after five minutes I would have to change [substitute] him”.
Following that, Galatasaray accused Jose Mourinho of making racist statements, while his own club Fenerbahce stated their manager’s comments were “completely out of context.” But, at the same time, the Portuguese stated that he went to the dressing room of the referees after the Istanbul derby, where he told the Turkish fourth official, “If you were a referee, this match would be a disaster”.
It led to the TFF sanctioning Jose Mourinho for “his derogatory and offensive statements towards the Turkish referee” apart from him accusing “Turkish football of chaos and disorder with insulting and offensive statements towards both the Turkish football community and all Turkish referees”. In one of the instances, he was banned from the dressing room and dugout for two matches, while getting fined £2,543.
Moreover, the Portuguese also got banned for another two games for his derogatory comments during the post-match press conference, which was deemed as “an act against sportsmanship,” while being fined £32,651.
