New Zealand batter Kane Williamson will be seen serving London Spirit in The Hundred as he has broken into record books by becoming the first-ever direct overseas signing. Williamson will be holding the reins of London Spirit in the upcoming competition. Besides Hundred tournament, he will also deliver his services to Middlesex in the English summer coming ahead. The Kiwi veteran has signed a two-year contract with Middlesex. Back in 2021, Williamson was picked up in the original draft by Birmingham Phoenix, however, he couldn’t join the side and took his name back after picking up an elbow injury. The New Zealander has expressed delight over his signing and also expressed excitement about playing at iconic Lord’s.
"Our international schedule has allowed for a bit of break during the English summer, and I was looking to come to the UK with my family, so when this opportunity arose it was a really exciting prospect. The Home of Cricket is one of my favourite grounds in the world for so many different reasons. I've had so many incredible moments there,” said the Kiwi batter.
Williamson to feature in Vitality T20 Blast 2025
Williamson will also join Middlesex for the Vitality T20 Blast 2025. In the 2024 season, Middlesex concluded their campaign in the eighth spot in their pool. The 34-year-old is expected to play more than 15 matches for Midddlesex across the Vitality Blast and County Championship. The star batter refused to accept New Zealand central contract in 2024, which gives him the liberty to skip his national duties.
Recently, Williamson returned to ODI cricket after 14 months with his appearance in the tri-series in Pakistan. He concluded the competition as the second-leading run-getter with 225 runs in three matches at a superb average of 112.50. Williamson is also a vital part of New Zealand’s Champions Trophy 2025 side.
