Kapil Dev, the 1983 Cricket World Cup-winning captain for India, is set to appear in the upcoming movie Lal Salaam alongside the legendary actor Rajinikanth. This is a Tamil movie, which will be directed by Aishwarya.R.Dhanush, the daughter of Rajinikanth, while the other featured actors to play their respective roles are going to be Vishnu Vishal and Vikranth.
Kapil Dev has portrayed his own character in movies like Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, Iqbal, Chain Kulli Ki Main Kulii, and Double XL. Meanwhile, in 2021, a movie called "83," based on the first Cricket World Cup win of India, was released in which the Haryana Hurricane’s role was portrayed by the Bollywood star Ranveer Singh.
Earlier today, Rajinikanth took to Twitter and made the announcement about the 'Lal Salaam' movie, where he will be sharing the screen with Kapil Dev. The world-renowned actor shared a picture of himself talking with the former Indian swashbuckling cricketer in a tweet and wrote, "It is my honour and privilege working with the Legendary, most respected and wonderful human being Kapildevji., who made India proud winning for the first time ever..Cricket World Cup!!! #lalsalaam #therealkapildev"
Notably, in his cricketing career, Kapil Dev played 131 Test matches and scored 5248 runs, and picked up 434 wickets to become one of the greatest fast bowlers India has ever produced. He was the highest wicket-taker in the Test format for the better part of six years from 1994 to 2000 until Courtney Walsh broke his record. Dev also picked up 251 wickets in 225 ODIs for the country while scoring 3783 runs.
