Karachi Kings (KK) have refuted the media claims that their newly-appointed skipper David Warner left the training session due to the pitch conditions. Karachi will kick off their Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 campaign by hosting Multan Sultans on April 12. This year, Karachi have trusted Warner’s leadership prowess to lift the coveted trophy again after five years. In 2020, Kings won their last title under Imad Wasim’s captaincy after beating Lahore Qalandars in the final. The Karachi Kings team management removed Shan Masood from the leadership role to hand the captaincy baton to the Aussie.
As per some media reports, Warner was displeased by the practice pitch and left the warm-up session. The claims further added that Warner was demanding flat pitches but he was provided with a green turf, which is rarely found in the subcontinent nation nowadays. However, the Karachi Kings team management has denied such reports and issued a statement that the 38-year-old marked his presence in a training session at the Hanif Mohammad High Performance Centre ahead of the contest against Multan.
David Warner unavailable for captains’ conference
Earlier, David Warner remained absent from the captains’ conference ahead of the PSL 2025. In his unavailability, the side’s vice-captain Hasan Ali took part at the event. Warner’s absence fueled speculations but the sources from Karachi said that the Aussie veteran’s absence was pre-planned.
Warner informed about skipping the media event earlier as he wanted to be with his players to prepare for the maiden game against Multan. Warner became a marquee signing of Pakistan’s premier T20 tournament after going unsold in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 auction held in Jeddah in November 2024.
