Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s maiden IPL title victory celebrations turned into a disaster in Bengaluru as people gathered in huge number outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium leading to a stampede. Around 11 people lost their lives and more than 50 people lost their lives as the situation went out of control. After such a blunder, there have been several questions raised by the people regarding crowd management by RCB management and the Karnataka Government.
Recently, the Chief Minister of Karnataka, Siddaramaiah also reacted to the situation and said that he doesn’t want to do any politics on this situation. Apart from that, Siddaramaiah also announce INR 10 Lakh aid as compensation for the families of the ones affected in the stampede and ordered magisterial inquiry on the situation.
Stadium has a capacity of 35000, but 2-3 lakh people gathered: Karnataka CM
Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah acknowledged the lack of security during the victory celebrations in Bengaluru and said that he doesn’t want to defend this. He also mentioned that he didn’t expect this much people to show up as more than two lakh people gathered outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium which has a capacity of only 35000.
“This was a major tragedy. People have died in a stampede. Eleven lives have been lost and 33 others are seriously injured. Around 14 people have taken treatment at the outpatient facility. I visited the hospital. Such an incident should never have happened, and the government deeply regrets it,” Karnataka CM was quoted as saying by Mint.
“The turnout was far beyond what we anticipated. In front of Vidhana Soudha, nearly one lakh people had gathered, but there were no incidents there. However, at Chinnaswamy Stadium, there were casualties. No one, neither the cricket association nor the government, expected this, as the stadium has a seating capacity of about 35,000. We assumed only a slightly larger crowd would show up. But almost two to three lakh people gathered,” Siddaramaiah further added.
