Former Indian Football player and professional Indian Football manager turned out to be a too contender to become new Head Coach of India’s Men’s Football team. Notably, All India Football Federation's (AIFF) shortlisted Khalid, Stephen Constantine and Stefan Tarkovic to take over the role of Head Coach. However, as reported by Times of India, AIFF technical committee has been backing Khalid for the role rather than other two names.
AIFF were given a list of 170 names for the role of new Head Coach after which they shortlisted just three names. Former Head Coach of the Indian Football team, Manolo Marquez stepped down from the role earlier this month after mutual agreement with AIFF following disastrous performance by the team under his tenure.

The AIFF released a statement where they revealed that they had a virtual meeting on July 23 where they shortlisted three names from the list of 170 applications for the Head Coach of Indian Football team. Khalid Jamil, Stephen Constantine and Stefan Tarkovic went on to become the top three contenders for the role and one of them will be seen taking over the position soon.
"The All India Football Federation’s Technical Committee (TC) met virtually on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, to shortlist the applicants for the Senior Men’s Indian Football Team head coach role. The TC carefully reviewed 170 applications received earlier this month and narrowed it down to three candidates – Khalid Jamil, Stephen Constantine, and Stefan Tarkovic,” the statement from AIFF read.
"The TC has recommended the resumes of the three shortlisted candidates to the Executive Committee, which will take the final call on who the next Blue Tigers head coach will be," the statement further said.
