Indian wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul is set to transition into a complete middle-order player across formats, including the Indian Premier League. Rahul has played most of his international career at the top of the batting order and continued this trend in the IPL when he moved to the Punjab Kings (then Kings XI Punjab).

But over the recent past, Rahul has grown into one of India's best middle-order players with his ability to score and quickly adapt to scenarios the game presents consistently. The development was reported by Cricbuzz, which revealed that the Indian international wants to play in the middle order in each format.
Rahul has also discussed this change with the team management, captain Rohit Sharma, coach Rahul Dravid and chief selector Ajit Agarkar. The report quoted a source around the Indian team who stated, "He (KL Rahul) wants to evolve himself as a middle-order batsman across formats and establish himself there." Rahul is set to take the middle-order role starting from the two Tests against South Africa before the five-match Test series against England and continued this role in the upcoming season of the IPL.

Talking about KL Rahul's numbers in both roles, the Karnataka native has scored 5292 runs across 152 innings at an average of 36.75 with 39 half-centuries and ten hundreds. Whereas in the middle-order, Rahul has amassed 1928 r uns at an average of 58.42 with 11 fifties and five centuries.
