The former England Test captain Nasser Hussain spoke about how the Virat Kohli versus James Anderson battle is the only thing missing from the enthralling five-match Test series between the hosts India and England. In the first Test, England registered a 28-run win in Hyderabad, followed by India securing a 106-run victory in Visakhapatnam to level the series 1-1.
Virat Kohli and James Anderson have been involved in one of the greatest individual rivalries in the modern era of Test cricket, beginning in the year 2012. Their battles in England have been second to none, which saw Anderson dismiss Kohli four times for just 16 runs in 2014, followed by the former India captain scoring 114 runs off 270 balls against the Englishman without getting dismissed on the 2018 tour.
In his interview with the Daily Mail, Nasser Hussain talked about the absence of Virat Kohli from the first two Tests of the five-match series due to personal reasons, and said, as per the Indian Express, “I hope he does come back because the only thing this series has been missing is the battle between Kohli and Jimmy Anderson. I’m looking forward to that.”
Reports have emerged in the past few days about Virat Kohli expected to miss the third and fourth Test of the series.
Nasser Hussain also commented on the batting performances of the Indian cricket team in their home conditions, which didn’t impress him much. He said, “The one thing about India is that in three of their four innings, they have been a bit sloppy. I know Rahul Dravid and he would have been ticking inside at some of the dismissals so far. India will think, ‘We keep on giving England a sniff here, let’s be more ruthless’. And the one thing Kohli is, is absolutely ruthless.”
