Indian javelin thrower and Paris Olympics silver medalist, Neeraj Chopra, was part of a funny incident at this press conference after his triumph at the 2024 Summer Games. Chopra continued to stamp his name as arguably India's greatest athlete as he won his second consecutive Olympic medal after his gold in the Tokyo Games three years ago.
In Paris, Neeraj Chopra had a difficult start as he registered a foul throw which crossed the 86m mark and wasn't counted. With his second attempt, the 26-year-old had a throw of 89.45m, a season-best which was enough to seal the silver. Pipping Chopra was Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem who created a new Olympic record with a 92.97m throw.
Neeraj Chopra urges press to ask questions in Hindi after winning silver
After his event, Neeraj was asked, "What should be changed to create more sports culture in India?" in the post-match press conference. Responding to this question, Chopra said, " Koi Hindi Mai Puch Lo Ji" (Could someone ask it in Hindi?). Then after hearing the question in Hindi, Neeraj Chopra responded, "First of all, maybe it's good tha people watch our games now. Because it also happened last year and this year."
"They watch our games live. They wake up very early and they sleep very, very late because. Of our game. So this is one of the signs that Indian Sports is changing and also maybe in future. When parents push their children. To go to the stadium is how India will change in sport."
