On Friday, June 14, Pakistan had one of their lowest points in cricket history, failing to reach the Super 8 stage from Group A of the T20 World Cup 2024 after the USA took the coveted spot due to a no-result against Ireland due to rain. In the immediate aftermath, the former Pakistan cricketers slammed the captain Babar Azam and his team on the X platform for failing to live up to their legacy in the tournament.
Notably, Pakistan needed the USA to lose against Ireland in their final group-stage match of the T20 World Cup 2024 at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium in Lauderhill. However, the outfield was wet at the venue due to incessant rains in the build-up, which the ground staff were unable to dry despite all their concerted efforts, leading to the USA versus Ireland match getting called off.
With that, the USA joined India as the two teams to make the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup 2024 from Group A. When it was confirmed that Pakistan would not be making it past the group stage of the tournament, a lot of former cricketers were unhappy about the state of cricket in the country.
