With ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 being the next big cricketing event, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to announce Team India’s squad. Notably, the International Cricket Council (ICC) is yet to announce the schedule of the tournament, which is set to be played from February 19 with the final scheduled to be played on March 9.
While the tournament will be marking its return for the first time since 2017, the Indian cricket team will play all its matches at a neutral venue in the UAE. Ahead of the tournament, the Men in Blue have received a massive blow as the side might not travel with Kuldeep Yadav.
Kuldeep Yadav likely to miss England series and Champions Trophy
According to several reports making rounds, star spinner Kuldeep Yadav is likely to remain out of contention to be picked in the Indian squad for the white-ball series against England and the Champions Trophy. “Kuldeep is yet to start bowling. Once he starts, he will have to appear for a match simulation or two, a few days before he is given the green light. As for the England matches, it’s not impossible but tough (for Kuldeep to return) as just over a month remains for those games to begin. But as far as the Champions Trophy is concerned, there could be a chance of his comeback, as there will be more time for it," a BCCI source informed.
Kuldeep Yadav sustained a groin injury during the home Test series recently. The cricketer has however undergone a surgery for the same, he is currently on the road of recovery. On the other hand, Indian off-spinner’s childhood coach Kapil Pandey also opened up on the cricketer’s return.
“This month itself, he should start bowling. I’m quite confident. He’ll be here (in Kanpur) by next week, and then we’ll make further plans. It may be a little early to predict Kuldeep’s comeback, as he will resume bowling first and then has to play a practice game or two while going through the other tests and processes," Kapil Pandey said as quoted by Hindustan Times.
