On Saturday, May 24, Indian driver, Kush Maini shone on the world stage, becoming the first Indian to win Formula 2 Monaco Grand Prix Sprint race. With the podium finish for DAMS Lucas Oil, Maini etched history on the iconic street of Monaco, converting his pole position to the win.

The Indian racer held off fellow Alpine Academy driver Gabriele Mini, who finished second for PREMA Racing, whereas Luke Browning finished third for his team, Hitech TGR. Speaking in detail of Maini’s performance,starting from the pole position, the BWT Alpine F1 Team reserve showcased his masterful control from the very start.

The DAMS driver led the race confidentally for all 30 laps, managing the pressure with veteran-like maturity to finally secure a dominant lights to flag finish. It is to be noted that Maini had qualified for Sunday’s feature Race, placing him on pole for the Sprint due to reverse grid system.

Anand Mahindra lauds Kush Maini’s historic performance at Monoca GP 2025

Seeing the 24-year-old brilliant run at the Monoco GP, it even caught attention of one of the leading business tycoon Anand Mahindra, the Chairman of Mahindra Group. Taking to X, Anand Mahindra wrote, "You are Standing Tall, @kmainiofficial and the country stands tall with you. Kush Maini making history as the 1st Indian winner of an F2 race in Monte Carlo. We are proud to have you on our team at @MahindraRacing." Apart from him, Maini also got several accolades from India, including the likes of Devendra Fadnavis, Gautam Singhania among others.

While it was his first F2 win of the season and his maiden with DAMS Lucas Oil, he will aim to replicate it more often this season. Speaking after his win, Kush Maini said, “P1 and first Indian to win at Monaco. It's a great honour and a dream come true, really. I want to thank DAMS and everyone who's supported me. We keep believing.”
