Amir Coffey, the Los Angeles Clippers’ star, has been hit with two criminal charges of misdemeanor, over his gun arrest last month. The Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office has filed two criminal charges against the 26-year-old, which includes a count of “carrying a loaded firearm,” and another count of “carrying a concealed firearm.”
On the morning of July 30, the cops arrested Amir Coffey, at around 5:05 AM, after they found a loaded gun in his vehicle during a routine traffic stop as per a report from TMZ. He had admitted to the law enforcement about the firearm being his own, which was the reason for his arrest, before he was let go from custody several hours later.
Notably, the Hopkins-born basketballer was pulled over at 2:30 AM in Hollywood for speeding in the car. The cops felt that his vehicle smelled like marijuana, leading to a thorough search of it, which concluded with a loaded gun in his possession.
Amir Coffey is yet to comment publicly about the case altogether, let alone criminal charges levelled on him recently. He is due to be back in court for a hearing on the case later this month.
Moreover, since joining Los Angeles Clippers in 2019, the 26-year-old has taken part in 181 games for the franchise in the last four seasons. He has averaged 5.5 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game for them, during his professional basketball career.
