On Saturday, March 16, India’s shuttler Lakshya Sen lost the semi-final of the men’s singles at the All England Open 2024 in three games. Jonatan Christie of Indonesia got the better of Lakshya Sen with the scoreline of 21-12, 10-21, and 21-15, to reach the final of the prestigious badminton event on the sporting calendar at the Utilita Arena in Birmingham.

In the first game, Jonatan Christie and Lakshya Sen started neck-and-neck in the early stages before the Indonesian shuttler pulled away to take the 11-7 lead at the break, ultimately securing it 21-12. The second game saw Sen come out firing to take a decisive 11-3 lead at the break, and shortly after, he converted the first of 10 game points against Christie.

During the early stages of the third and final game, the scoreline read 7-6 in favour of Lakshya Sen, but then, Jonatan Christie took his play to the next level. The Indonesian shuttler secured the 11-8 lead at the break before he won the game and the match with a 21-15 scoreline, but not before his opponent saved three match points.

With Lakshya Sen bowing out of the All England Open 2024, there are no Indian players left in the tournament going into the finals day tomorrow. Moreover, the men’s singles final in Birmingham will be an all-Indonesian contest when Jonatan Christie takes on Anthony Ginting on Sunday, March 17.
