Leeds United have agreed to a deal of €20 million with Hoffenheim for midfielder Anton Stach's transfer to the Premier League. The 26-year-old Bundesliga club will earn a base transfer fee of €18 million, with an additional €2 million in potential bonuses included in the agreement. The twice-capped German international is set to sign a new four-year contract in Yorkshire. With Stach’s departure, Hoffenheim will have trimmed their bloated 39-man squad down to 35 players in recent weeks. Once the deal is confirmed, Stach will be the sixth player to be signed by Leeds in the ongoing summer transfer window.
The German international will line up alongside Sean Longstaff, whose transfer from Newcastle United was finalized on Friday, July 19. During its signing spree, Leeds has also strengthened their squad with the additions of defenders Sebastiaan Bornauw, Jaka Bijol, and Gabriel Gudmundsson, along with German forward Lukas Nmecha. One of the reasons why Leeds considered Stach is his imposing 6 feet 4-inch physical stature. Physicality, he’ll add to an already robust-looking midfield unit.
Anton Stach wasn't involved in Hoffenheim in their recent matchday squad
Anton Stach had been training with Hoffenheim during pre-season, but he is notably absent from their current matchday squad for the tour in Austria. It seems he has departed the camp to head to West Yorkshire, having featured - and even captained - Hoffenheim in their most recent pre-season fixture. As per the deal, Stach will undergo the medical test very soon. Leeds have edged even closer to sealing the transfer following the latest update from Hoffenheim.
Once in the team, both Longstaff and Stach will be a boost for Leeds in the midfield. Thanks to their intensity and desire to bring out the best. Morevoer, according to Opta’s Jonny Cooper, Stach ranks among the top Bundesliga players over the past two seasons in several key defensive metrics.
