Leicester City ,the former Premier League champions, has confirmed that English striker Jamie Vardy will depart the East Midlands club in the summer after creating a lasting legacy in his 13-year tenure with them. Calling Jamie Vardy their “greatest-ever player”, Leicester City announced that his final appearance at home, King Power Stadium, will happen in a Premier League match against Ipswich Town on Sunday, May 18 before playing his final match for the club versus Bournemouth next weekend away.

Notably, Jamie Vardy’s football career has been an extraordinary one to say the least, starting with him playing non-league football in 2010, to winning the Premier League title with Leicester City against all odds just six years later. After joining the East Midlands club from Fleetwood Town for just £1 million in 2012, Jamie Vardy went on to not only win the Premier League, but also the FA Cup and FA Community Shield in 2021 apart from winning the Championship twice, to earn promotion to the English top flight 10 years apart.

In their official statement about the big news, the West Midlands club wrote, “We can confirm legendary striker Jamie Vardy will leave Leicester City this summer after 13 seasons that have seen him become our greatest-ever player.” In his 496 appearances for Leicester City in all competitions, Jamie Vardy has scored 198 goals and provided 69 assists in total, winning multiple trophies as mentioned above.

The chairman of Leicester City, Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha, paid tribute to Jamie Vardy for his exceptional tenure at the club, and said, “Jamie is unique. He is a special player and an even more special person. He holds a place in the hearts of everyone connected to Leicester City, and he certainly has my deepest respect and affection. I am endlessly grateful for everything he has given to this Football Club.”

“Although Jamie’s time with us as a player is ending, he and his family will always be welcomed back to King Power Stadium with open arms after all he has achieved. On behalf of everyone at Leicester City, I wish Jamie and his family the very best for the future and I know our supporters will join us in giving him the send-off he deserves at the end of this season,” he added.
