The Indian Premier League (IPL) is known for its thrilling encounters and intriguing clashed between the franchises. In its history of 18 years, IPL has produced some of the thrilling encounters throughout the years of the cash-rich league. Some of the matches become so interesting that we can’t get the result even after the completion of the entire 40 overs of the matches. After that, the result is decided in the super over.
The super over is followed after both the teams end up posting the same total after the end of their respective 20 overs, which means the match ended in a tie. The team that ends up scoring most runs in one over per side are declared official winners of the game. However, even if the super over ends in a tie, another super over has to be followed to decide the result of the match.
IPL Super Overs
Throughout the years, IPL has produced some thrilling encounters where the winner was decided in the super over. The first-ever super over of the IPL was played between Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals during the second edition of the IPL in 2009. The last super over in the IPL was played in 2021 where Delhi Capitals defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad in a thrilling encounter.
