Liverpool head coach Arne Slot looked discontented after his team ended the game against Aston Villa in a stalemate with 2-2 scoreline. The result will impact Liverpool’s chances of winning the coveted Premier League trophy. Despite going undefeated for 22 consecutive games, Arne wasn’t satiated with his team’s performance in the game played at the Villa Park. Earlier, Liverpool maintained a similar streak from January 2019 to February 2020 when they didn’t record any losses for 44 games in a row and also won their maiden Premier League title.

Following the Wednesday match, Slot attended the post-match interview and expressed his unhappiness over the results. "It was a great game. Going in 2-1 down at half-time didn't feel like the game went for us like that but I was disappointed. We came out in the second half and scored 2-2 and had some good chances to make it 3-2 and then we could even have lost it. It was a great game but I am not happy with the result. I felt we defended well but I can't come up with a lot of Villa chances. You need to have a neutral set-piece balance or positive and we conceded one and did not score one. We scored two good goals and created enough chances to get the winner," said Slot in the press conference.

Liverpool’s captain Virgil van Dijk also agreed with his coach and said that his side didn’t extract expected results. “A bit disappointed but we fight. We had chances to win the game, took a bit of a risk at the end so it got more open at times. We take a point and move on and focus on a big one at the weekend, again," said Dijk in his conversation with TNT Sports.

Arsenal following Liverpool for top spot on the points tally

Liverpool are in the top spot on the points tally with 61 points earned through 18 wins in 26 matches, while Arsenal are following them with 53 points gained through 15 victories in 25 contests. Nottingham Forest have also left an impact with 47 points in 25 outings. The third-placed team has racked up 47 points. Defending champions Manchester City haven’t performed up to their expectations, and they are unlikely to retain the title. With 13 success in 25 matches, they have got only 44 points in the tally.

Liverpool will next take on Manchester City at the iconic Etihad Stadium on February 23. Both sides previously met each other at Anfield in December 2024 with Liverpool emerging victorious by 2-0 margin with the help of goals from Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah.
