Commonwealth Games and Asian Games silver-medal-winning long jumper Murali Sreeshankar has won the 35th Jimmy George Foundation award for the best sportsperson of Kerala. The award includes a cash prize of INR 1 lakh and a plaque. The award is named after former Indian volleyball legend Jimmy George, who was the youngest volleyball player to win the Arjuna Award.

The award is decided by a committee including Jimmy George’s brothers, Jose (committee head), Robert Bobby, Sebastian and Stanley.  Former Olympian and Kerala athlete Anju Bobby George was also a member of the committee, that elected Sreeshankar for the Jimmy George Award.

The 24-year-old Olympian will receive the Jimmy George Award on Friday, December 22, at the Jimmy George Sports Academy in Kannur.  Sreeshankar is placed fourth in this year’s World Long Jump list. The long jumper won silver medals in the Asian Games in China and the Asian Championships in Thailand.

He also took home the bronze medal in the Paris Diamond League this year.   Murali Sreeshankar previously  won the 2022 Commonwealth Games silver in Britain and was seventh in the World Championships in the USA last year.
