Lucknow Super Giants did reasonably well in their debut season. The KL Rahul-led team made it to the last four. LSG players put on emphatic performances throughout the season and that became the hallmark for the Lucknow-based team. While the likes of Ayush Badoni, Deepak Hooda, Mohsin Khan, Ravi Bishnoi, and Avesh Khan impressed with their spirited performances, KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock lived up to their reputations. The only concern for LSG was repeated failures of Manish Pandey and the LSG management addressed it by letting go of the batter.

LSG also released a few big names alongside Pandey. Jason Holder, Evin Lewis, Dushmantha Chameera, and Andrew Tye were the notable omissions. Ankit Singh Rajpoot and Shahbaz Nadeem also had to bid adieu to the franchise. By releasing as many as seven players, LSG have saved 23 Crore for the IPL 2023 Mini Auction. They have ten slots to fill but the focus will be more on overseas players.
