According to recent reports, the newly-formed IPL franchise Lucknow Super Giants are likely to sign Australian fast bowler Andrew Tye ahead of IPL 2022. He is likely to be signed as a replacement of English pacer Mark Wood, who was ruled out after suffering an elbow injury in the first Test match against West Indies. The Super Giants had paid a massive sum of INR 7.50 Crore in the mega-auction for Wood.

"Scan results have confirmed that Wood has a right elbow injury. He will return to the UK next week for a specialist opinion regarding the management of his injury," the England Cricket Board's statement read.

The Durham quick, who was due to play in the Indian Premier League, will now miss the tournament and will have an indefinite break from cricket until more information is determined from the elbow specialist. The Super Giants had paid a massive sum of INR 7.50 Crore in the mega auction for Wood.

Tye was part of the Rajasthan Royals squad in IPL 2022 but had to pull out of the tournament citing fatigue and dismay. "It is with great regret that I have to pull out of the remainder of the IPL 2021 with the Rajasthan Royals. It has been a long year for me which has kept me away from home for a lengthy period, and the disappointment of not making it to the World Cup squad has added to the dismay", his statement read.

Andrew Tye has won the Purple Cap award while playing for Punjab Kings in the 2018 edition, clinching 24 wickets. He also took a five-wicket haul with a hat-trick on IPL debut for Gujarat Lions.
