Amid this, the Aussies have roped in Ravichandran Ashwin’s impersonator to help them train better in the Indian conditions. Mahesh Pithiya, a Gujarat-born Baroda player who has an uncanny resemblance to Ashwin’s bowling action has been seen giving throwdowns to the Aussie batters.

Talking more about this young 21-year-old bowler, Pathiya hails from Junagad (Gujarat) and made his First-Class debut for Baroda against UP in December 2022.


To everyone’s surprise, this action has come to him naturally as he said to have not seen Ashwin bowl until he was 11. But the veteran off-spinner became Mahesh Pithiya’s idol when he saw him play for India against West Indies in 2013.
