A section of the main stand at the Bengaluru Football Stadium collapsed during a match on Sunday, July 22. The incident took place during the final clash of the Chief Minister football tournament held at the venue. According to news reports, as Shanti Nagar MLA Constituency clashed against CV Raman Nagar MLA Constituency, a part of the main stand fell above a team dugout.
As shown in the video, spectators seated in the stand fell onto the ground and as many as six spectators sustained injuries. The video of the incident has gone viral on social media and generated reactions from users across the internet. However, a Karnataka State Football Association (KSFA) official tried to play down the incident and said that nothing major happened and no one got injured.
Sportstar quoted the senior KSFA official as saying, “What collapse are you talking about? There was no collapse. Nothing major happened, and there were no injuries.” The match saw Shanti Nagar MLA Constituency emerging as the winner of the match, and were presented prizes by N.A. Haris, KSFA President and AIFF Vice President.
Times of India quoted fans present at the venue as, “Thousands of fans had turned up to watch the final between Shanti Nagar and CV Raman Nagar. It was a carnival atmosphere as spectators from both the assembly constituencies packed the stands. Fans were injured when a part of the front portion crashed. The match was interrupted for a while even as the fans were rescued and taken to the hospital.”
