Los Angeles FC have reached their maiden Major League Soccer (MLS) Cup final after thrashing Austin Texas 3-0 in the Western Conference final on Sunday. LAFC are scheduled to face Philadelphia Unions, who defeated defending champions New York City 3-1 in the Eastern Conference final, in the MLS 2022 Cup final on Saturday.
Los Angeles FC made their MLS debut in 2018 as an expansion team while Philadelphia Union began playing in the 2010 season as an expansion team. This is the first time when both LAFC and The U have reached the MLS Cup final.
LAFC defeated city rivals and record five-time MLS champions LA Galaxy 3-2 in the Conference semifinals while the Union beat Cincinnati 1-0 in the EC semifinal. LAFC topped their conference standings with a difference of 11 points from the second-placed Austin, on the other hand, Philadelphia managed a two-point difference over Montreal to claim the top spot in the Eastern Conference.
