Manchester City are reportedly exploring the option in the market to get in No 6, and former star Aston Villa midfielder, Douglas Luiz, who currently plays for Juventus, is on their radar for a potential loan move. Luiz has played 16 times for Juventus this season, and is the top contender for Manchester City. Interest from the Premier League champions might grow if Juventus gives consent to a direct six-month loan deal with no option for a permanent move.

Manchester City have struggled without midfield talisman Rodri, who will be out for the majority of the season after suffering an ACL injury. Guardiola's squad includes Mateo Kovacic, Ilkay Gundogan, and Matheus Nunes, but none of them can defend as well as Rodri. Despite the Douglas Luiz interest, they are not guaranteed to make an addition in this position during this window, but it is possible if the deal is suitable for them. Sky Sports News has already stated that City will not pursue Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi, who is close to a move to Arsenal in the summer, or Newcastle's Bruno Guimaraes.

Douglas Luiz shows interest in switching to Manchester City

According to reports, Douglas Luiz is interested in returning to Manchester City this month, in the hopes of reigniting his career just a few months after embarking on a new challenge at Juventus. The Brazil international was on the Sky Blues' books from 2017 to 2019, before joining domestic rivals Aston Villa for £15 million, and he has been alerted to the possibility of leaving his present employers for more familiar surroundings when the transfer window closes.

Manchester City is considering making a formal offer, but they risk facing competition for Luiz's signature as Manchester United has begun to express preliminary interest after Fulham and Aston Villa's interest. Luiz left Villa for Juventus last summer for £42.2 million, but his time in Italy has not gone well.

In recent weeks, there were reports of Douglas Luiz linked with Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal, but City are now regarded as a genuine contender to sign him.
