With the summer transfer window reopens, Manchester City is all set to bid for Wolves defender Rayan Ait Nouri. This will help the club to solve left-back woes. The City has been facing issues since the departure of Benjamin Mendy in August 2021. The Algerian left-back has become Manchester City’s top target for the position, as Hugo Viana and Txiki Begiristain collaborate on ushering in a new generation within Pep Guardiola’s first-team squad.

The bidding news comes from the transfer guru David Ornstein who believes that both clubs are on the same page, and the City manager Pep Guardiola is keen to bring in Nouri. Midfielder Nico O’Reilly performed well in the role during the final months of the season, but it’s evident that Guardiola is looking to strengthen his squad by bringing in the experienced Algerian international. With years of expertise in the position, the new addition could provide the boost needed to help City challenge for the league title again.

Much needed deal for Manchester City to fill the gap

Manchester City has been without a natural left-back since Benjamin Mendy's departure, with his final appearance coming in August 2021. Since then, the position has been covered by the likes of Oleksandr Zinchenko, Joao Cancelo, and Josko Gvardiol, all of whom have had extended spells filling in. However, the last season, young talent Nico O’Reilly stepped into the role, featuring notably in the FA Cup final loss to Crystal Palace.

Presently, there is no agreement on a place for the Algerian international. Ait-Nouri is in the part of Algeria’s squad for their upcoming friendlies against Rwanda on June 5 and Sweden on June 10. For him to be eligible for the Club World Cup group stage, Manchester City would need to finalize the transfer before June 10. Ait-Nouri has played 157 matches for Wolves since arriving at the Midlands club, contributing five goals and seven assists this season.
