Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has won the Premier League’s Player of the Month for August as he scored nine goals in five games to kick off his career in England. The 22-year-old started the Premier League with a brace on his league debut against West Ham United.

He then netted one against Newcastle United before scoring back-to-back hattricks against Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest as the Citizens won four of their opening five games. The former Borussia Dortmund forward pipped the competition from Arsenal’s Gabriel Jesus and Martin Odegaard along with Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Reacting to the award, Haaland talked about how is extremely elated with his and the team’s performance in the opening month. He said: “I am delighted to win this award for the first time – it was an incredible start of the season for the team and I am grateful to everyone who voted."

“We all wanted to hit the ground running this season, so winning four games out of five was a great start for us in what is the most challenging competition in the world. I am happy to have played my part by scoring goals. What’s important is the result and to help the team. Hopefully, I can continue to support the team, make our fans happy with our performances and carry on our strong start to the season”, Haaland added.

Now, Haaland and the Citizens will be facing the Wolverhampton Wanderers in their upcoming Premier League fixture. Addressing the game, Man City manager Pep Guardiola addressed how the Wolves are a completely new team this season. “It is a completely different team to the previous seasons. They used to play five at the back with Conor Coady, now they play with four",  said Pep.

“I am really impressed with how they play. Their position in the table is because football is unpredictable and sometimes you don't get what you deserve. They have a lot of good things, like central defenders making a good process; they have incredible runners and a lot of talent", he continued.
