Rayan Cherki, the newest Manchester City signing, is looking forward to taking revenge against city rivals Manchester United next season for losing the chance to secure the UEFA Europa League (UEL) because of them last season. In the second leg of the quarter-finals of the tournament, Lyon were 4-2 up at one stage during extra time before Manchester United clinched victory from the jaws of defeat with 5-4 scoreline, 7-6 on aggregate.
In both the legs of the UEL quarter-finals, Rayan Cherki found his name on the scoresheet, but it wasn’t enough to secure his team a spot in the semi-finals of the tournament. During the second leg at the Old Trafford, when the Frenchman scored for Lyon against Manchester United, he seemingly grabbed his crotch and made certain gestures at the home fans, following which his current statement dictates how much he wants to get stuck into them.
Now I am waiting for the game to kill them: Rayan Cherki on Manchester United
It was just a few days ago when Rayan Cherki was announced as the new player at Manchester City, joining them from Lyon on an initial transfer fee of £30.45 million. When he was asked about the aforementioned incident, the 21-year-old was quoted as saying, as per BBC Sport, “I [didn't] like [it] when Manchester United won the game against Lyon because I am a Lyonnais. Now I am waiting for the game [to] kill them. I'm here to win all the games.”
As per the latest development in the world of football, the fixtures for the Premier League 2025-26 season will be released on Wednesday, June 18, when Rayan Cherki will find out about when Manchester City will take on Manchester United. While the difference between both the teams is quite stark heading into the new season, Manchester United did not lose to Manchester City in both home and away fixtures in the league last season, registering a 2-1 win over them at the Etihad Stadium.
