Manchester United is said to be progressing well to sign their top transfer target Matheus Cunha. The Wolverhampton attacker has reportedly agreed on personal terms with The Red Devils and is very close to signing the deal. Cunha seems to have faith in the new project Ruben Amorim is intending to build at Old Trafford and sees this move as an opportunity to play for a big club and fight for titles.
Cunha initially joined Wolves on a loan deal from Atletico Madrid during 2024’s winter transfer and had an impressive season with 22 G/A, pushing the club to sign him on a permanent deal. Even in the current season, Cunha has been in impressive form, scoring 17 goals and providing 6 assists in 34 games so far. His good string of performances has garnered eyeballs from across Europe as top clubs now are in the hunt to sign the 25-year-old Brazilian maestro.
Matheus Cunha could potentially miss out on European football if he joins Manchester United
Cunha supposedly has a 62.5 million pounds release clause and Manchester United will be willing to negotiate with their PL rivals for a lower price to sign him. Earlier reports had suggested that Manchester United was looking to offer a long-term contract to the young Brazilian of about 5 years. While Cunha has mentioned that he wants to fight for titles after moving to his next club, he might potentially miss out on European football if he joins Manchester United.
United are currently placed 16th in the Premier League table in what has been one of their worst domestic seasons. While climbing up the European spots in the remaining games stands impossible, United still have a chance of salvaging a European spot for next season as they are in the final of the Europa League. They are set to face Tottenham on May 22, who are also in 17th place in the PL table, and the winner of this fixture will secure their berth for the Champions League next season.
