Manchester United have rejected Napoli's initial proposal of £40m for Alejandro Garnacho, with the Italian club unwilling to reach the Red Devils' asking price. The 20-time Premier League champions believe the Argentine winger is more valuable than Napoli's estimate. The Italians have made the Argentina international their top priority this month to replace standout player Khvicha Kvaratskelia. The Georgian star will join Paris Saint-Germain in a £70m trade that will be completed on Friday.
While Alejandro Garnacho is showing his keenness to leave Old Trafford and move to Naples, United's management is prepared to play hardball with the 20-year-old. United have told the Serie A club that it will cost £60m to sign Garnacho this month, and they want their valuation matched. Garnacho was associated with United since breaking into the main squad, becoming a crucial player under former manager Erik ten Hag, and earning the 2024 Puskas Award for global football's finest goal with an incredible acrobatic strike against Everton last season.
He has talent, but needs to learn to play in different position: Manchester United boss on Alejandro Garnacho
Ruben Amorim, Manchester United's new boss challenged Garnacho to work on his game, if he is keen to be regular with the new United side. "He has talent, and he needs to learn to play in a different position,” said the United boss, speaking before Thursday’s Premier League game against Southampton. “He (Garnacho) needs to play better inside. He improves a lot in the recovering position when he doesn’t have the ball. But by doing that, sometimes he’s not in the right place to make transitions like he was in the past," said Amorim.
Garnacho has played the entire 90 minutes as United rallied from behind to defeat Southampton 3-1 at Old Trafford on Thursday in the Premier League, thanks to Amad Diallo's 12-minute hat-trick. After joining United from Atletico Madrid in 2021, he has made 117 first-team appearances and scored 23 goals since debuting in 2022.
