According to reports, Premier League club Manchester United is set to release Portuguese striker Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of the January transfer window . There have been multiple clashes between the manager Erik Ten Hag and Ronaldo since he wasn’t allowed to leave the club in the Summer transfer window.
The tensions between the player and the club saw a sudden escalation when CR7 stormed out of Old Trafford at the 89th-minute mark during the Red Devils’ 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspurs on Wednesday. In response to this incident, Man United released a statement confirming that the five-time Ballon d’Or winner will be left out of the squad for the Chelsea game at the weekend.
Now club sources say they are planning an exit strategy regarding Ronaldo’s situation, and if no teams can be found by his super-agent Jorge Mendes, Manchester United could be willing to cut their losses and let Ronaldo go for free in January as reported by inews. The reports further added that Erik ten Hag made the decision to drop as a direct punishment for CR7’s actions which also firmly backed the club.
Further reports say that Cristiano Ronaldo is set to be separated from the Manchester United first-team as manager Erik ten Hag works around his refusal to come on as a substitute during his side’s win over Tottenham. Reported he refused to come on as a substitute and hence will be expected that he will be made to train alone.
Reacting to Ronaldo’s walkout, Erik ten Hag expressed that he won’t immediately address the issue after the match as other players had given an incredible performance which deserves praise. While speaking to Amazon, he said, “I don’t pay attention today, we deal with that tomorrow. I want to focus on this team, it was a magnificent performance from all 11 players. I have to correct myself, it was a performance on the subs who came on. A squad performance.”
