England forward Mason Greenwood, who was charged with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault, was released from custody after his bail application was granted by a Manchester court on Wednesday.

The 21-year-old Greenwood was on bail since January but was arrested in the Trafford area on October 15 for an alleged breach of his bail conditions. After that, the footballer appeared at Manchester Magistrates’ Court on Monday and was remanded in custody.

On Wednesday, a bail application was moved at Manchester's Minshull Street Crown Court in a private hearing. Following the hearing, a spokesman for the court said bail had been granted to Greenwood, under the condition that he does not contact witnesses, including the complainant, and resides at a specific address.

Greenwood has been directed to reside on Bow Green Road in Bowdon and the forward is due to appear at court again on Monday, November 21.

All three charges relate to the same woman as the alleged rape is reportedly said to have occurred on October 22, 2021. The controlling and coercive behaviour relates to a period between November 2018 and October 2022 while the charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm is dated December 2021.

After the allegations surfaced online this year, Man United suspended Greenwood from playing or training with the Old Trafford club. Later Nike suspended and terminated its sponsorship deal with Greenwood while Electronic Arts removed him from the active squads on the FIFA 22 game.
