Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford is reportedly close to joining fellow Premier League club Aston Villa on a loan deal for the remainder of the ongoing 2024-25 season. After club manager Ruben Amorim decided to drop the 27-year-old from the matchday squad against Manchester City nearly two months ago due to drop in standards in training, he hasn’t featured in any of the games for the Red Devils.
Notably, Unai Emery’s Aston Villa had expressed an interest in signing Marcus Rashford on loan a few days ago, and as per the current report from ESPN, the deal could go through before the transfer window closes at 23:00 GMT on Monday, February 3. It is understood that Aston Villa will be covering a substantial amount of wages of Marcus Rashford, while there will be bonuses included in the deal on the basis of performance.
Aston Villa expected to get an option to sign Marcus Rashford on permanent deal
The loan deal between Manchester United and Aston Villa for Marcus Rashford is expected to have an option of making it a permanent one before the start of the next season. If Villa opt-out of signing Rashford as their own, then he is likely to make his way back to Old Trafford, potentially getting a lease of life under manager Ruben Amorim at United if the latter stays in the job.
Moreover, there is rumoured to be some desperation in Aston Villa ranks in regards to signing a potent attacking force after the departure of Jhon Duran to Al-Nassr, a Saudi Pro League club, just a couple of days ago. Earlier, the sources had revealed that Marcus Rashford preferred to move to Barcelona if he was really done at Manchester United, but the financial issues of the La Liga club came in the way.
Borussia Dortmund also had an interest in signing Marcus Rashford, but his £350,000-a-week wages ended up being too much for them.
