On Sunday, January 19, Manchester United suffered yet another home defeat in the Premier League 2024-25 season with a 1-3 scoreline against Brighton, who have now beaten them for the third successive time in the league at Old Trafford. In the post-match interview, a frustrated Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim had no hesitation in calling his team as one of the worst, if not the worst, in the history of the club.

The fourth loss in fifth successive game at the Old Trafford for Manchester United came after Yankuba Minteh, Kaoru Mitoma, and Georginio Rutter scored the goals for Brighton, while for the hosts, captain Bruno Fernandes scored a penalty to level the game early in the first half. After collecting just 11 points in 11 outings in the Premier League under Ruben Amorim, Manchester United are in 13th place in the standings with 26 points in 22 matches.

We are the worst team maybe in the history of Manchester United: Ruben Amorim

While speaking to the media after their humiliating loss against Brighton, Ruben Amorim was fully aware about how he is losing more than his predecessor Erik ten Hag. He was quoted as saying, as per BBC Sport, “In [the past] 10 games in Premier League, we won two. Imagine what this is for a fan of Manchester United. Imagine what this is for me. We are getting a new coach who is losing more than the last coach. I have full knowledge of that.”

Ruben Amorim also went on to address the media directly, giving them the headline about how his team is among the worst in the history of the club. He remarked, “We are the worst team maybe in the history of Manchester United. I know you [media] want headlines but I am saying that because we have to acknowledge that and to change that. Here you go: your headlines.”

In the mid-week, Manchester United will have some respite in terms of not playing a Premier League game, but still, they are set to take on Rangers at Old Trafford in the matchday seven of the UEFA Europa League 2024-25, a competition in which they are still unbeaten.
