102:Fire burns Marizanne Kapp's whole life, memories and furniture; player shares pic on social media
While South Africa's Marizanne Kapp had a memorable time in the United Kingdom as her team Oval Invincibles won the inaugural edition of the Women’s Hundred, she received a terrible news upon reaching her home. On August 21, Oval Invincibles beat the Southern Brave by 48 runs at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground to emerge as the champions but in a social media post some 15 hours ago, Kapp revealed that her home furniture was found burnt.
The 31-year-old missed five games in the Women's Hundred tournament due to an injury but was superb in the remaining fixtures. The veteran South African all-rounder was extremely shocked and upset by the unfortunate turn of events that presumably happened in her absence. She even uploaded a picture of the burnt furniture to share her sadness.
"Received the worst news ever this morning… our whole life, memories and furniture burnt to pieces… we lost everything," she captioned the picture.

Earlier, Kapp's spouse Dane van Niekerk was all in praise for her. Notably, in the final of the Hundred, Kapp scored 26 off 14 and picked up three wickets of Danielle Wyatt, Gaby Lewis and Sophia Dunkley and conceded only nine runs off 18 balls. In fact, none of the three batters who got out to Kapp managed to open their account. Courtesy of her spell, Invincibles bowled out the Brave for 73 in 98 balls.
"She’s been incredible. I think I’ve said it a couple of times now, she’s a player for the big moments and I’m just very pleased for her," Van Niekerk said after the game.
"I said I’m probably the proudest person in this stadium at the moment. She was out with an injury for a little bit in the tournament and to come back and make such an impact just shows you the quality of the player she is. She’s the most hard-working person I know. Nobody deserves it more," she stated.
"I was just so proud of her, she’s so humble, she doesn’t understand what impact she made on the game today," she added.
