With the Australian Open kickstarting in Melbourne on Sunday, January 12, Czech tennis player Marketa Vondrousova is the latest to withdraw from the tournament. The 2023 Wimbledon champion’s decision to withdraw from first Grand Slam of the year comes after she sustained an injury at the Adelaide International.
Notably, the 25-year-old returned to competitive tennis after a six-month break which saw her ranking drop to 38. Her return followed a shoulder surgery. In the opening round of the Australian Open 2025, the Czech international was set to face Jana Fett of Croatia, but will be replaced by a lucky loser from the draw.
