Mexican wrestling legend Miguel Angel Lopez Dias, popularly called Rey Mysterio Sr, passed away at the age of 66. A renowned figure in the world of wrestling, Mysterio Sr was the uncle of WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio Jr, and the great uncle of WWE star Dominik Mysterio. Mysterio Sr. starred in several Mexican promotions, including the World Wrestling Association. Miguel made his debut in January 1976, and throughout his career, he wrestled for several competitions and labels, including Wrestling Revolution, Tijuana Wrestling and World Wrestling Association.
Apart from his nephew and grand nephew, his grand niece, Aalyah, also appeared in WWE on various occasions. The late WWE star won the WWE World Junior Light Heavyweight Championship once and also earned the WWA Tag Team Championship with Rey Mysterio Jr. as well. Lucha Libre AAA mourned the death of Lopez, and shared a heartfelt post on X. The tweet read, “We regret the sensitive death of Miguel Angel Lopez Dias, known as Rey Mysterio Sr. We send our most sincere condolences to his loved ones and raise our prayers to heaven for his eternal rest.”
Rey Mysterio Jr announces death of father, Roberto Gutierrez
Earlier in November, WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio Jr. announced the death of his father, Roberto Gutierrez. He took to Instagram and shared an emotional post, paying tributes to his late father. He wrote, “You did more than set the example of how to love & maintain a strong marriage and father 4 boys, you were the example and passed every single time until your death with flying colors. Excellent husband, loving father, beautiful grandfather, incredible son & brother, and amazing father in law.”
He added, “You checked every list on the box and can honestly say my majority [traits] I picked up from you. You fought until the very last minute and know that your biggest fear was leaving Moms behind, but I can assure you that she will not be alone and we will always look out for her. You are with God now and smiling from the heavens while we continue with the real struggle of life until we see again. You will never be forgotten and will always be loved, RIP Pops."
