MI Emirates on Saturday announced the coaching staff for the upcoming International League T20. Former New Zealand fast bowler Shane Bond has been named the head coach for the inaugural season of the International League T20. Notably, Bond is also the bowling coach of Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The MI Emirates coaching team includes current Mumbai Indians talent scouts, Parthiv Patel and Vinay Kumar who will be the team’s batting and bowling coach respectively. Similarly, former Mumbai Indians all-rounder James Franklin will be the team’s fielding coach. In addition, Robin Singh, with his vast experience in UAE Cricket, will be General Manager for MI Emirates.
Bond expressed excitement about his new role with the team as he said, "It's a privilege to be appointed the Head Coach of MI Emirates. It's always exciting to build a new team and I'm looking forward to furthering the MI legacy and inspiring our players to take the game to new heights," in an official media release.
Shane Bond has been part of the Mumbai Indians organisation since 2015 and has won four IPL championships. During his tenure with MI, Bond has built a formidable and successful bowling attack. Parthiv Patel has been a Mumbai Indians player in the past and from the 2020 season, he has been a part of the talent scouting team.
Karnataka pacer Vinay Kumar has also had a similar journey as he was a former MI player, who joined the scouting team in 2021. Both Parthiv and Vinay were a part of Mumbai Indians' IPL winning squads in 2015 and 2017.
Chairman, Reliance Jio Infocomm, Akash M. Ambani talked about the new coaching staff for the MI Emirates. He said, “I welcome Shane, Robin, Parthiv, Vinay and James to their new roles in MI Emirates. Having been an integral part of MI for various periods of time, the coaching team is exceptionally well-versed in the values that make MI what it is. I’m sure they would be able to build MI Emirates as a team that attracts the love of passionate MI fans.”
