With the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season getting suspended for a week due to the cross-border crisis between India and Pakistan, there have been speculations running rampant about where the remaining matches of the tournament will be held. Amid that, Michael Vaughan, the former England cricketer, took to his official X account, to give his take on the situation, suggesting that the IPL 2025 should finish in the United Kingdom (UK) since it has the enough venues to accommodate the prestigious franchise tournament.
Notably, the IPL 2025 season was officially suspended with immediate effect for a week by the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) in the aftermath of the Operation Sindoor initiated by India against the terrorists living in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK). It was just a day ago when the match 58th of the IPL between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) got called off due to a significant technical failure at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium in Dharamshala.
It was later revealed that the close proximity of Dharamshala to the Indo-PAK border, which was under attack, led to the officials deciding to call off the match midway, but the BCCI didn’t mention it in their statement to this regard. With 16 matches remaining in the tournament, including three playoff matches and the grand final, it will take just around a couple of weeks to finish the tournament, with various venues in India and elsewhere having been thrown into the mix.
I wonder if it’s possible to finish the IPL in the UK: Michael Vaughan
Michael Vaughan sent out a post on his official X account about the matter, which read, “I wonder if it’s possible to finish the IPL in the UK .. We have all the venues and the Indian players can then stay on for the Test series .. Just a thought ?”. Apart from suggesting UK as the potential host for the IPL 2025 matches, he also alluded to the fact that the Indian cricket team are slated to play a five-match Test series there against England starting with the first game from June 20 onwards.
It is a valid argument from Michael Vaughan that the Indian players would need as much time as they possibly can, to acclimatise to the English conditions, giving themselves the best chance to win the Test series this summer.
