Mikel Arteta has advised Arsenal to utilise the anger of giving Liverpool a guard of honour on May 11 as fuel to win the next Premier League (PL) title, following his admission that they have gone backwards this season. Arsenal are set to conclude the season without any major title as they have failed to compete alongside Liverpool, and also got eliminated from the Champions League after facing a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in the semi-final played on May 8. The French club victory neutralised Arsenal’s hopes of lifting the UEFA Champions League (UCL) title for the first time.

In the initial stage of the game against PSG, Arsenal created some chances but couldn’t break the confidence of PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who stood as a wall against the English club. Arsenal are yet to recover from the disappointing loss, but currently they have to get prepared to attend Liverpool's ongoing title celebrations. Both teams will face each other at Anfield on Sunday.

Noting this, Arteta said that Arsenal should take motivation from this incident as it can ignite fire in their hearts to lift the distinguished PL trophy next year. He remarked, "Something has to drive you, motivate you, and pain for this is a good one to use, when you really want to do something. It's the right thing to do, usually as a motivation for next season."

Mikel Arteta stays adamant on his claim about best team of UCL

Arteta faced massive criticism for his assertion that Arsenal were the best side in the Champions League 2024-25 despite their last four exit. However, the 43-year-old looked unfazed and didn’t retract from his claim.

"100 percent. I’m watching the impact, I’m watching all the stats because they were the best stats and the best goal difference in the semi-final, so it’s very clear. When you look at the important stats that normally give you the best platform to win football matches, it's crystal clear who was better," said the Spanish footballer.
