The Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami named NTR and Prabhas as his favourite actors from the South Indian Film industry during an event in the city of Hyderabad. The 33-year-old is currently sidelined from cricket due to an ankle injury after a stellar ODI World Cup 2023 campaign with the ball for India, culminating in a final defeat against Australia.
Mohammed Shami played just seven matches in the CWC 2023 out of the possible 11, but still, he became the leading wicket-taker in the flagship tournament. The right-arm pacer took 24 wickets with an average of 10.70 and an economy of 5.26, which included three five-wicket hauls.
Following the ODI World Cup 2023, the ankle injury has kept Mohammed Shami from playing a plethora of cricket in Indian colours in the last four months. He has missed the full-fledged tour to South Africa, apart from several home series in all formats of the game.
During his appearance at an event in Hyderabad, when a reporter asked him about his favourite actor or actress from the South film industry, Mohammed Shami said, “South ki movies kaafi pasand hai. Junior (NTR) pasand hai. Prabhas pasand hai (I like South Indian movies a lot. I like Jr NTR. I like Prabhas)”.
Mohammed Shami also spoke about his likeness to the South Indian film industry, and he appreciated the trend of dubbed movies from the region. He remarked, “Movies dekhta hu main par itni jyada nahi kyoki Tamil toh samajh mein hi nahi aati. Lekin dubbing movies aa gayi hai toh wo bahut acha lagta hai (I watch movies but not much because I don’t understand Tamil. But, the dubbed movies are quite good to watch)”.
