The new-looked Indian team is set to play a five-match Test series in England starting on June 20. The team will be led by Shubman Gill after Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli announced their retirements from the longest format of the game. It is going to be a big challenge for India and they will be looking to register a historic win in England with a young side. As the series approached, the main question is that who will bat at number four for India in Kohli’s absence.

Reacting to this, former England cricketer Monty Panesar has backed Sai Sudharsan to take Virat Kohli’s number four position in Test cricket for India. Panesar backed Sudharsan to be the next superstar of India and can be a key player for the Shubman Gill-led side in English conditions.

“Yeah, there are some really good youngsters in the team at the moment, and one particular batsman is the Surrey player. He played for Surrey as an overseas – Sai Sudharsan. He looks very aggressive; he looks fearless; he’s a player who has done well in English conditions, and he has done well for Surrey. So I think he could be the next superstar of Indian cricket and take on that role of what Virat Kohli did at No. 4," Panesar told Inside Sport.

I want this Indian team to do is carry on the legacy of Virat Kohli: Monty Panesar

In his interview, Monty Panesar also backed India to do well in the England series. He also took an example of Virat Kohli and how he used to play in the longest format. Panesar wants the new-look Indian team to carry on Kohli’s legacy.

“The one thing that I want this Indian team to do is carry on the legacy of Virat Kohli. The way he played Test cricket. I would like to see the young Indian team play like that," Monty Panesar said.
