With a few hours remaining before Mumbai Indians take on Rajasthan Royals, the fans were chanting “Mumbai cha raja Rohit Sharma (King of Mumbai is Rohit Sharma)” in unison outside the Wankhede Stadium. On Monday, April 1, MI will be looking to register their first win of the IPL 2024 campaign under Hardik Pandya’s captaincy.
On the IPL 2024 points table, the five-time champions, Mumbai Indians, are currently the only team to have not registered any points. In their first two matches of the tournament, in the away conditions, MI lost to GT in Ahmedabad, followed by their defeat to SRH in Hyderabad, while chasing down totals.
The first two defeats for Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2024 also coincided with severe booing of their newly appointed captain Hardik Pandya at the Narendra Modi Stadium and Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Many fans are not happy with the MI management’s decision to replace Rohit Sharma with Hardik Pandya in the leadership role, and they are letting their disapproval of him known in various ways, both inside and outside the stadiums.
In the latest video from this afternoon, the fans were spotted hyping up Rohit Sharma outside the Wankhede Stadium, anticipating what’s to come later tonight inside the heralded venue. With that, there are also rumours flying around in regards to Hardik Pandya potentially getting booed once again during the ongoing season of the IPL, but this time around, it could happen in his home stadium.
Moreover, Rajasthan Royals, who are going to be playing against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium tonight, have won their first two matches of the IPL 2024 season. If RR manage to leave Mumbai with a win under their belt, then they could become a team to beat in the early stages of the tournament.
